2006 Winter Olympics
Our trip to Pragelato, Italy and the 2006 Winter Cultural Olympic World Ice Festival was very successful. What a beautiful place to host the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. In the Ice competition, there were 40 competitors from around the world that competed in a 3 day event.
Each carver was given 8 - 300 lb. blocks of ice and they were divided into two categories: Abstract and Realistic. Within those categories, there were four themes to follow. The themes were the Human Body, the Olympic Spirit, the Italian Arts and Sports, and People's Harmony. The judging panel was a team of eight International Master Carvers. Kevin and Tony were two out of seven American Ice Carvers that qualified to represent the United States in this event. After judging was complete, Kevin took third place in the Realistic Category and Tony took fourth place in the Abstract Category.
We have had a wonderful opportunity to represent our country. We also had great sponsorship and support to help with our Olympic Competition journey. A portion of the proceeds from the Olympic Preview Ice Festival went to the First Baptist Church of Conshohocken to help rebuild their historical place of worship after a devastating fire last summer. The Church is very thankful for this support and we at Ice Concepts are very thankful for all the sponsorship we received for our journey to Italy and the XX Cultural Olympiad.
